At Kelley/McIlnay Chiropractic, we are dedicated to making Chiropractic an important step in your direction to better health and wellness.
Whether you have been to a Chiropractor or this is your first time, we want to open our doors to you and allow you to feel at home. We offer a variety of services and techniques to our patients
Chiropractic Adjustment
This form of treatment typically consists of a series of spinal adjustments by utilizing a gentle hand delivered force into the affected vertebra. This is done to restore alignment and flexibility to that area. The chiropractic adjustment is a quick thrust applied to a vertebra for the purpose of correcting its position, movement or both. Adjustments are often accompanied by an audible release of gas in the spinal joints that sounds like a “crack.” The sound sometimes surprises people the first time they get adjusted, but the sensation is usually relieving. Some adjusting techniques are designed to move the spine in a way that does not produce the audible sound at all. Chiropractic is so much more than simply a means of relieving pain. Ultimately, the goal of receiving adjustments should be to restore the body to its natural state of optimal health.
Intersegmental Traction
We use Cervical and Lumbar Intersegmental Traction to gently stretch and elongate the muscles supporting your spine to enhance the retraining of your spine. It is a way of inducing passive motion into the spine for the purpose of stretching spinal joints, increasing mobility. Since discs have a poor blood supply, they get nutrients from the circulation of fluids surrounding spinal joints. Fixations prevent this natural circulation and can cause disc thinning and degeneration. Intersegmental traction helps increase and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine. You’ll love the relaxation! Traction feels good, is good for you and is an important adjunctive procedure that enhances the effects of your chiropractic care.
Physiotherapy
To complement and enhance the healing effects of the Chiropractic adjustment treatments, we at Kelley/McIlnay Chiropractic also provide the following physiological therapeutic procedures:
Ultrasound
Interferential Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Microamperage Neural Stimulation
Cryotherapy
Moist heat therapy
Laser Therapy (Low-Level Cold Laser)
Instead of the full spectrum of light that comes from the sun, our low level laser produces light in a narrow frequency. Frequencies in the red portion of the rainbow are shown to assist the healing of soft tissues. Apparently, cells of our body have receptors that are sensitive to light. Low-Level Lasers can non-thermally and non-destructively alter cellular function. This phenomenon, known as laser biostimulation, is the basis for the current use of lasers to treat a variety of articular, neural and soft tissue conditions. Research has shown that Low-Level Laser Light Therapy works for:
Wound healing
Inflammation reduction
Pain management
Cell regeneration
Scar tissue reduction
Kinesiology Therapeutic Taping
Kinesiology tape is a therapeutic tape that is thin and stretchy and is designed to promote movement as opposed to immobilizing an injured region of the body. While it is most often used as a sports tape for injured athletes, it can also be used as an adjunct in the treatment and prevention of many orthopedic, neuromuscular and inflammatory conditions. Using a variety of patterns, depending on the patient's condition or injury, kinesiology tape provides stability to joints and muscles so that pain and inflammation are reduced, tired muscles are relaxed and consistently active muscles are supported. It is almost identical to human skin in both thickness and elasticity, which allows it to be worn without binding, constricting or restriction of movement.
Corrective Exercises
We teach our patients specific exercises designed just for them to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction by as much as 30-40%. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.
